This list contains almost all of the books that I have read. I chose most of these books because they were interesting and popular. Others I choose simply because they were about a topic that I wanted to learn.
With each book title below, I wrote a micro-review — just a sentence or two describing my impression of the book.
I hope you find it helpful.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Discusses life and social conduct. Written by a balanced, bald, Mormon dude with a big family.
Don’t Know Much About History
A tolerable U.S. history lesson.
A Short History of Nearly Everything
The best science book in the world. Exceedingly informative. Fatally entertaining.
O Jerusalem!
How did the mess in the Middle East get started? This book may have a few answers.
Angels and Demons
Dan Brown’s most entertaining piece of work. Trumps his other novels; hands down.
Anthem
Ayn Rand argues individualism over collectivism through a boring love story.
America
Jon Stuart tries to deliver history and political education through comedic writing. It didn’t work…
The DaVinci Code
Whether Jesus is a human, god, prophet, or a Jewish zombie makes no difference; the story is BORING.
The Fabric of the Cosmos
Are you an idiot who would like to learn quantum physics? Try this book. You might at least understand entropy. That’s what I did.
The World is Flat
Book about technology trends in 2004/2005. Therefore, ancient history.
Robert Ludlums: The Moscow Vector
Stereotyped novel. Like Tom Clancy’s crap; only worse.
Fatal
Silly novel about evil doctor who sacrifices people’s lives for profits from vaccination.
Freakonomics
Interesting case studies of how people respond to incentives and how that affects decisions and outcomes in life.
The Closers
Mediocre detective novel.
How to Win Friends & Influence People
Shower people with praise and never critize. Be hypocritical. This may make you a leader. [My advice: Criticize. Be genuine. Be yourself. And enjoy life]
All the Shah’s Men
How the CIA overthrew a legitimate Iranian government, installed a Shah, and eventually caused the Islamic revolution in Iran.
Memoirs of a Geisha
Excellent novel. Provides entertaining insight into the sub-culture of geishas.
New Rules
Funny Bill Maher jokes.
Libertarianism
Introduction to the philosophy of voluntaryism and non-aggression. Boring.
My Life
How William Jefferson Blythe III ended up becoming Bill Clinton and what he did afterward…
Fiasco
How the Jewish influence within the Whitehouse caused the fiasco in Iraq.
Cell
Wanna know why Stephen King is such a popular author? Don’t read this novel. He couldn’t have gotten popular behind this junk. He probably has better novels.
Deception Point
Dan Brown exercises more of his conspiratorial theories on how NASA conned the U.S. government into giving them more funding…I think…
Stumbling on Happiness
One of the best books on human psychology and human’s perception of happiness. Very informative. Very entertaining. Highly recommended!
Guns, Germs, and Steal
Whites aren’t better because they’re smarter. They just started out in a better environment. So, there you have it.
A History of the Arab Peoples
Another boring history book on Arabs.
The Kite Runner
I forgot what this novel is about…Afghani boy…A pretty girl with a crooked nose and no plastic surgeon…Then what? I know it was hyped up. But it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me…
History of the World
Yet, another history book. HUGE. Ruined the ending of 300 for me
The God Delusion
Basic atheism stuff. Atheists like this book.
Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain
I thought it was about psychology, but it turns out to be about Buddhism!!
Buying Trances
Joe Vitale drifts away from his shady Internet marketing activities and publishes a legitimate book on the topic of selling, and it is not that good.
You, Inc.
A good alternative title for this book would be: Business Behavior for Dummies. If you got no common sense, you might find this book helpful.
Getting to Yes
Excellent book on negotiation. I actually applied the advice in this book to successfully exchange my phone with another one 2 weeks after the exchange period has expired. Others would tell you that that’s impossible to do where I live.
The Promise of Sleep
I have sleep problems; thought this book might help. I learned about sleep debt and sleep apnea…Pretty useful (Disclaimer: I don’t snore).
The 4-Hour Work Week
A life-changing book. Very motivating. Contains lots of BS, though.
Mavericks at Work
How some business leaders deviate from the norm and create interesting and successful businesses.
Jack Welch and the GE Way
How Jack Welch improved GE as a CEO and how GE utilized Six Sigma.
The Age of Turbulence
I don’t remember what this book was about. Probably Greenspan’s departing BS.
The E-Myth Revisited
Document everything. Structure everything. Create processes. Only then you can say that you have a business.
Influencer
Inactionable ideas on how to exert influence and move people.
Getting Things Done
A popular system among geeks on how to stop procrastination, organize your tasks, and get them done. Over-complicated.
Predictably Irrational
Horrible book and manipulated experiments by a failed scientist, Dan Ariely, who apparently knows nothing about anything.
Walden
I picked up this book because Tim Ferriss recommended it in the 4-Hour Work Week. While I managed to get through the first half and enjoy some of it, the book was very difficult to read.
The Magic of Thinking Big
Another book recommended by Tim Ferriss. Supposed to be motivational. I found it full of fluff and couldn’t read it.
Outliers
Gladwell says people succeed because their circumstances gave them the opportunity to work hard. Not everyone gets that opportunity.
I Will Teach You to Be Rich
How to manage your finances and bank accounts. Mostly for U.S. college kids. For everyone else, save $1,000 a month, and you’ll have a million dollars in 25 years. Or as my little brother put it “25 years?! Only one million? I don’t need that shit”.
