Automatically Create and Cloak Amazon Affiliate Links in WordPress

2009 December 29
by MK

I have written an article earlier on how to generally cloak and organize affiliate links in WordPress. But in this article I will show you how to setup your WordPress system so that you can easily create and cloak Amazon affiliate links on the fly.

The end results will be something like this. To link to an Amazon product, you would simply put

http://yourdomainname.com/amazon/[ASIN]

And this unique link of yours would forward to Amazon’s product and credit you for any sales. As you should’ve guessed, to link to a different product in Amazon’s catalog, you just change the ASIN number in the link above.

This should make it very convenient for you not only to link to Amazon, but also cloak your links effectively.

So, let me show you how to set this up…

The Books that Altered the Course of My Universe

2009 December 28
by MK

This list contains almost all of the books that I have read. I chose most of these books because they were interesting and popular. Others I choose simply because they were about a topic that I wanted to learn.

With each book title below, I wrote a micro-review — just a sentence or two describing my impression of the book.

I hope you find it helpful.

Tips and Strategies for Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) Ownage

2009 December 25
by MK

For the past few weeks, I have been playing Modern Warfare 2 nonstop. I’ve become pretty good at it…but my style is tactical. Some times I receive messages on Xbox LIVE from angry players accusing me of being a camper. I understand that they get frustrated when I dominate an entire region in the map. But just because I don’t run around and expose myself like a moron, doesn’t make me a camper.

While running around with a sub-machine gun could be fun, my bad connection, which is usually at red or yellow, isn’t suited for this kind of fast paced style. That’s why my style is more of a long-range assault rifle kills. But I usually come out with either most kills or highest kill/death ratio or both. My overall kill/death ratio is 1.5:1. That’s not bad at all for a lone wolf.

Here’s how you can achieve similar results in your own game. Read more…

Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai: Is the Room Rate Worth the Fun?

2009 December 21

Emirates Towers

The Emirates Towers are well known landmark in Dubai — probably one of the earliest (coolest) skyscrapers in the city. They look futuristic and very attractive.

My wife and I booked a room there for the weekend. The rate is AED 1,100 per night. This is not entirely outlandish for Dubai hotels.

But is the basic room in Emirates Towers hotel worth that much? Here’s what I found out, what I liked, and what I didn’t like about the hotel. Read more…

Why Avatar is Actually a Dumb Movie

James Cameron Making Avatar

First, I wanna say that I  enjoyed the movie…tremendously. The production and direction of the movie is just mind blowing. It’s very entertaining and engaging. Unlike with other movies, I never wanted to take my eyes off of the big 3D screen and look at my wrist watch. It went on for slightly over two and a half hours and I didn’t mind any second of it. I kinda wished it was even longer. It’s just that good; like The Lord of the Rings.

But the message of the movie is what doesn’t make me too happy about it.

I didn’t know James Cameron (the creator) was that deluded. Read more…

Writing About PHP Scripts!

2009 December 9
by MK

I just created yet another website with the intention to write about and promote PHP scripts. I called the website phpscripty.com. I set it up using WordPress and it was almost ready to go.

Just as I was about to write the first post, it occurred to me: why don’t I just write this stuff on msafi.com?

That’s what I decided to do. I will write about PHP scripts (which is a topic I truly love and enjoy) here on msafi.com. At least if I slack off later on and do a half assed job, msafi.com will have its other content to go on…

Stay tuned for my PHP scripts articles, guides and comparisons…

Website Idea: Directory of Online Help Communities

2009 November 10
by MK

AA042943Every so often I’ll get an idea for a Web app and I’ll share it on this blog. Last time, I had an idea for a news aggregator that pulls news from sources of various perspectives (i.e. both sides of conflict in the middle east, etc).

Today, I want to share another idea: a directory of technical help communities online. A place where a visitor can easily find links to the most active help communities of a specific topic, like HTML, math, physics, language, and so on…

But I’m not talking about a simple collection of forums, mailing lists, social networks and chat rooms. It’s more than that… Read more…

Sensible Use of “Tags” in a WordPress Blog

2009 November 9
by MK

wpt026In WordPress there are categories and then there are tags. I wanted to keep my posts organized, so I did some research to try to understand the difference between tags and categories.

After reading some explanations, I still wasn’t satisfied. I couldn’t find a logical distinction between categories and tags.

So here’s what I decided to do… Read more…
