Why Avatar is Actually a Dumb Movie

James Cameron Making Avatar

First, I wanna say that I  enjoyed the movie…tremendously. The production and direction of the movie is just mind blowing. It’s very entertaining and engaging. Unlike with other movies, I never wanted to take my eyes off of the big 3D screen and look at my wrist watch. It went on for slightly over two and a half hours and I didn’t mind any second of it. I kinda wished it was even longer. It’s just that good; like The Lord of the Rings.

But the message of the movie is what doesn’t make me too happy about it.

I didn’t know James Cameron (the creator) was that deluded.

I first knew about James Cameron through the HBO series Entourage. They portrayed him as a legendary movie maker who only makes a movie every 10 years. So, back when I was watching Entourage, I wanted to know a little more about James Cameron. I had already watched The Terminator and Titanic, so what else has he done recently? Aliens of the Deep. It’s a documentary of unusual marine animals.

Since it’s a documentary, it allowed for a lot of Cameron’s real personality to show. Something about him rubbed me the wrong way. But in that documentary, you can also see that Cameron is real geek and loves science. These traits aren’t bad of course, and they show in the movie Avatar.

But that’s not all that shows in the movie. He’s also got some crazy ideas.

Humans are Killing Planet Earth

The entire movie is based on the idea that humans are exhausting the resources of planet earth and are killing it. That’s why they need to invade, occupy, and control another planet and other people.

So, the message he conveys here is this: we, as humans who love material things and don’t care much about the environment, are bad. Instead of enjoying material things, we need to learn to enjoy dancing naked in the forest.

I don’t mind that. Dancing naked in the forest sounds like wild fun. But don’t try to manipulate me through lies in order to get me to do what you want. That’s exactly what global warming fear mongers do. They want a certain outcome, so instead of peacefully and decently win people to their way, they’ll lie to get control.

To Make Money, Big Companies Assemble Armies and Kill People

This is just dumb.

The idea that private businesses have armies has become a reoccurring theme in movies. First District 9 portrays a private corporation that controls and operates a big army without any oversight, and now Avatar does the same thing.

Did someone kick these stupid movie makers in the fucking head?…Governments have armies; not companies!

In Avatar, Cameron is portraying a CEO as a commander-in-chief ordering the invasion and destruction of an entire city. CEOs don’t do that. Heads of governments do.

Pleasing Them All

I think Cameron really believes in the message that he’s sending through Avatar. But I also think he’s catering to the public’s mania on: global warming, environmental consciousness, spiritual beliefs, and so forth…

This movie is a victory for every dumb person who so desperately needs to believe in bullshit, which is the majority of people. And that in turn translates into another high grossing movie.

  1. Avatar was the most relentlessly dumb movie I have seen in years. But dazzling sfx in 3D. Tin-eared writing, paper-thin characters, and a hippy-dippy philosophy about the noble savage and the mean nasty rotten white guys from Earth. And given that there is a huge audience for that kind of thinking today, why did Cameron put such gutter language in every third scene? This could have been a great family movie, but for the litany of s*** and f*** and b**** and a.h. and so on. I think he thinks “that is the way people talk,” which makes me less mad and more sad.

  2. It’s funny how people sure do love to deny the truth, especially when it strikes panick..

Sorry, but global warming is in fact real. Just because you don’t like the idea that humans are a cause doesn’t mean it’s all a lie. If you studied in your biology classes, you would know that carbon is released both naturally and forcibly (by us) into the atmosphere. It’s all about the rate at which carbon is taken from the atmosphere; if the trees, oceans, etc. cannot absorb the carbon faster than it’s outputted, more carbon will be left in the atmosphere, creating the greenhouse effect. Of course, we DO need this gas to be present in the atmosphere, otherwise this planet would be frozen over. But as a professor of mine once put it, “Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.” The burning of fossil fuels releases more carbon into the atmosphere than was naturally intended, as everyone should know at the end of high school. There are statistics that exist, and at least 95% of scientists globally agree on them, showing the sharp increase of carbon output since we started using these fuels and cutting down forests and how it’s warming up our Earth steadily.

That’s just for how the planet’s getting hotter. The ozone is another problem entirely, and that comes from the release of chemicals like chlorine into the atmosphere. What happens is this: the chlorine atom attaches onto oxygen atoms from O3 (ozone) and, taking the three oxygen atoms apart, dettaches at one point from the oxygen atoms it bonded with to create O2 (oxygen gas). The ozone layer slowly deteriorates due to this process because the oxygen atoms never come together in groups of three again..

So please, study your facts before you listen to the news :D because the media do tend to twist around words to get out their own message to the viewers.

  3. That there is more carbon is factual. That there are more Elvis impersonators is also factual. Both are equally related to the political/economic tactic of “global warming.” The Ice Shelf in Greenland and Antarctic is actually getting thicker and recent surveys show the temperature in the Artic grew noticeably cooler.

This is not something to be ignored because the earth has been in an interglacial period between ice ages that lasts about 11,200 years and we are due another ice age any day now.

This is why most other “environmentalists” have changed their terminology to “climate change” rather than the discredited and disprovable “global warming.” We await your update, and perhaps Mr. Cameron’s planned “Avatar II” and “Avatar III” will focus on the general idea of “disruption” rather than any particular and specific events.

  4. and you think corporations won’t or do not presently control armies? that makes YOU dumb. anything is possible, especially when big money control politics which can in turn control armies.
